Die Cast Metal Tender

Purpose / Summary:

SUMMARY: To tend break down furnace that re-melts alloyed aluminum metal used in the Die Casting Process. Transfer metal to maintain holding furnace levels.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Charge die cast furnace with specified proportions of metal at evenly spaced intervals. Care must be exercised when loading the ingots to avoid damage to the furnace hearth and door. Supervision available at all times.
Check furnace temperature gauge frequently to assure proper temperature level.
Maintain proper volume level in die cast machine holding furnace by transferring molten aluminum from breakdown furnace to die cast machines by use of forklift and bucket ladle or hand dipper. Constant care necessary to prevent serious injury to self and others due to inherent hazards.
Skim impurities from molten aluminum using a hand strainer.
Pour molten aluminum from ladle bucket into die cast machine holding furnace. Operate forklift.
Clean and flux the furnaces and equipment as necessary.
Exercise continuous mental and visual attention to properly perform duties and avoid injury caused by melted aluminum.
Responsible for own work and occasionally for one other person.
Assist in maintaining cleanliness of entire die cast department.
Assist die casters and trim machine operators.
Build constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance,
cooperation and mutual respect.
Projects a positive attitude about the tasks at hand to co-workers, customers, outside contractors, management, visitors and employer policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience as deemed acceptable by the hiring authority.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Forklift License

PPE REQUIREMENT: Hearing & Eye Protection. Steel Toed Shoes or Boots. Hard hat and Face Shield when pouring metal into a holding furnace. Hard Hat and Face Shield, apron and chaps when cleaning the furnace.

and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WAGE RANGE

The starting pay for this position is 14.75 plus 1.25 shift differential.

NAC has day and night shift operations.
